We are always looking to improve the service we provide to our patients, and this will improve waiting times for appointments with the Doctor. Nurse Practitioners have been providing health care in General Practice for many years and will be able to help you with everyday common illnesses, as well provide health advice.
What Is A Nurse Practitioner?
A Nurse Practitioner is an experienced qualified nurse (RGN) working within the Primary Health Care Team, who has undertaken further training to degree level. Many will originally have been Practice Nurses who have decided to adopt a more medical approach to their work and extend their knowledge and expertise to provide an alternative role in General Practice. Nurse Practitioners provide health care to people of all ages, using a combination of nursing and medical skills. These skills enable them to diagnose and treat the common illnesses experienced by most people from time to time.
Nurse Practitioners work very closely with General Practitioners, sharing and improving patient care. Each may refer to the other as well as other medical professionals e.g.hospital consultants, dieticians or chiropodists.

Making Use Of The Nurse Practitioner Service
This service is available to all our patients. Any patient can make an appointment to see the Nurse Practitioners. The Receptionists can make an appointment for you by phone or in person. There may be some overlap where the Doctor or Nurse Practitioners could help you, but there is no competition and neither will be offended if you see the other. However, if you are already receiving on going treatment or care from the Doctor, we ask you to continue with this.
You may be offered the opportunity to see one of our Nurse Practitioners if you require an emergency appointment or need to attend the emergency surgery.
